About this role

The Senior Scientist, Tech Ops contributes to routine technical tasks and supports project teams by performing specific functions such as conducting experiments and analysing data to enable product research and development.  

You may design and develop manufacturing processes for new or existing products, taking into consideration problems inherent in the transfer of technology from research to manufacturing.

You will apply practical knowledge of relevant process unit operations and work independently with general supervision to achieve operational targets with direct impact on departmental results.  Additionally, you will support project progression by preparing reports and materials for project or program committees to enable informed decision‑making.

You will conduct tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables, and as required, will need to operate within the current regulatory and compliance environments.

Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities​


You will apply advanced knowledge obtained through a postgraduate degree in biological sciences/biotechnology and extensive experience in biopharmaceutical process development .

  • Manage projects/processes related to virus reduction studies and in partnership with relevant internal and external stakeholders, working independently with limited supervision​
  • Coach and review the work of junior scientists
  • Provide scientific expertise and guidance in the design as well as the application of virus reduction studies and overall product development activities in close collaboration with other subject matter experts within and across the integrated product teams. ​
  • Ensure high quality in the application of virus reduction studies to support designated project objectives. ​
  • Contribute to the planning, performance, evaluation and reporting of scientific experiments at the highest levels of scientific integrity.  ​
  • Works together with and provide expertise to other team members to achieve specified process development objectives within defined time parameters.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements​

  • Postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in Life Sciences (virology, cell biology, biochemistry, etc) and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in industrial environment, especially in the process science/process development area. ​
  • Proven successful track record in designing and executing unit operation development in biopharmaceuticals, preferably experience in downscale models. 
  • A background in the virological field or work experience in BSL-2 labs is desirable, as the role includes daily hands-on activities using infectious viruses in biosafety containment labs.
  • Profound experience in project work, task management, and excellent analytical skills.​
  • Has a proven track record in technical writing, related documentation systems and workflows.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills (English language).​
