Job Description:

J&J Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a EHS Specialist reporting to the Safety Manager and based in Latina, Italy.

Position Summary

The EHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance, preventing risks, and driving continuous improvement in Environment, Health & Safety across the site. The role also supports regulatory adherence, incident management, and emergency preparedness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain site EHS programs aligned with J&J global standards and local regulations.

  • Provide required information and training to workers (per applicable regulations) and execute EHS communication and awareness activities.

  • Perform periodic inspections and controls of equipment, fire‑fighting systems, emergency materials and safety lighting; support maintenance/facility teams for statutory verifications with external bodies.

  • Support incident and near‑miss investigations and root‑cause analysis; propose, track and verify corrective and preventive actions in coordination with the EHS Site Lead.

  • Carry out EHS audits and inspections, document findings and help implement corrective action plans.

  • Monitor EHS performance via KPIs (incidents, near‑misses, inspections, audits, CAPA); contribute to continuous improvement activities and site reporting.

  • Update and maintain EHS procedures in line with operational changes and J&J initiatives; ensure legal compliance by staying current with technical and legislative developments.

  • Act as member of the Service of Prevention and Protection: support risk assessments, define safety procedures and participate in periodic prevention meetings.

  • Serve as Emergency Team Leader when assigned: maintain and test evacuation plans, organize and deliver training and drills, and coordinate with Police and Fire Brigade during emergencies.

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, J&J standards and contractor contractual requirements according to the Permit to Work system.

Qualifications 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Master’s degree (MA/MBA) or additional certifications preferred.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in EHS roles (pharmaceutical/GMP environment preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of local and international safety standards (ISO/OSHA/EHS frameworks) and statutory requirements.

  • Experience working with external notified bodies/inspection agencies is a plus.

  • Excellent organizational, communication and influencing skills; ability to work cross‑functionally.

  • Ability to lead emergency response teams and conduct effective drills and training.

Required

Fluent in Italian and English.

Experience in GMP environment.

Strong planning and prioritization skills.
