About this role

The Role

The Sr. Digital Manufacturing Technical Specialist will lead the design and deployment of scalable AI capabilities across Moderna’s Global Drug Substance (DS) Network. This role is accountable for translating complex operational challenges into robust, production-grade AI solutions that drive measurable impact across manufacturing, supply chain, and quality.

As a technical leader, this individual will operate with a high degree of autonomy, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and build reusable AI systems that can scale across sites and functions in a regulated (GxP) environment.

Here's What You’ll Do

  • Own end-to-end delivery of AI solutions from problem framing through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement across DS operations

  • Design scalable AI systems (e.g., LLM-powered applications, RAG pipelines, predictive models) that can be reused across the Global DS Network

  • Translate ambiguous business problems into structured AI use cases, partnering with SMEs across manufacturing, MS&T, quality, and supply chain

  • Drive adoption and value realization by embedding AI solutions into existing workflows and enterprise platforms

  • Ensure compliance and reliability of AI systems within GxP and data integrity frameworks

  • Establish best practices for AI development, evaluation, and lifecycle management within the DS domain

  • Influence technical direction and contribute to AI strategy for manufacturing and supply chain use cases

  • Mentor and uplift others, contributing to capability building and AI fluency across the network

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field

  • 2-4 years of experience delivering AI/ML or advanced analytics solutions in production environments

  • Strong software engineering skills with experience building scalable, maintainable systems

  • Hands-on experience with generative AI and LLM-based applications (e.g., prompt engineering, RAG, APIs)

  • Experience working with cloud platforms

  • Demonstrated ability to work across functions and influence stakeholders without direct authority

  • At Moderna, we are focused on delivering on our mission by enabling talent to thrive. For this role, we are currently unable to offer immigration sponsorship. Candidates must already hold work authorization in US and be able to maintain that status without the need for future sponsorship.

Pay & Benefits

At Moderna, we believe that when you feel your best, you can do your best work.  That’s why our US benefits and global well-being resources are designed to support you—at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

  • Best-in-class healthcare coverage, plus voluntary benefit programs to support your unique needs

  • A holistic approach to well-being, with access to fitness, mindfulness, and mental health support

  • Family planning benefits, including fertility, adoption, and surrogacy support

  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, volunteer days, sabbatical, global recharge days, and a discretionary year-end shutdown

  • Savings and investment opportunities to help you plan for the future

  • Location-specific perks and extras

The salary range for this role is $100,400.00 - $160,700.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
