Tasks and responsibilities

1. Design Management (Basic to Detailed Engineering)

  • Lead and coordinate Basic and Detailed Engineering with consultants and internal SMEs.

  • Ensure completeness and quality of PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, SLDs, and design deliverables.

  • Review and approve technical documents and drawings for constructability and compliance.

  • Drive Design Reviews, and ensure outputs support timely procurement and installation.

2. Construction, Installation, and Commissioning Oversight

  • Manage installation and construction activities across civil, mechanical, electrical, and automation disciplines.

  • Coordinate field execution with vendors and contractors, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule compliance.

  • Oversee commissioning planning, readiness checks, testing, and final handover.

3. Safety, Quality, and Compliance Assurance

  • Enforce strict adherence to EHS protocols at all phases — zero compromise on safety.

  • Ensure implementation of QA/QC standards, including ITPs, checklists, audits, and NCR closures.

  • Coordinate with Safety and Quality teams to ensure all works meet regulatory and internal standards.

4. Schedule Control (Non-Negotiable)

  • Own and update the Integrated Master Schedule across all project workstreams.

  • Use 2W/4W/6W look-ahead schedules to monitor and forecast execution bottlenecks.

  • Lead recovery planning for delayed packages and ensure alignment with stakeholders.

5. Cost Control and Forecasting

  • Maintain strict cost control throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Forecast cash flow, manage invoice schedules, and align procurement milestones.

  • Control Scope Change Orders, assess their impact, and ensure approval before execution.

6. Scope Change Order (SCO) Management

  • Monitor and manage all recovery actions for lagging work packages or vendors.

  • Act as central owner for SCOs — coordinating evaluations, documentation, impact analysis, and approvals.

  • Ensure all changes are traceable, justified, and incorporated into schedules and budgets.

7. Risk Management & Early Forecasting

  • Maintain a live project risk register with active mitigation plans.

  • Proactively identify and escalate risks that could affect scope, schedule, safety, or cost.

  • Ensure recovery actions are implemented before risks escalate to critical impact.

8. Project Governance & Stakeholder Management

  • Organize and lead status meetings, design reviews, site reviews, and cross-functional syncs.

  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, internal teams, and leadership for issue resolution and alignment.

  • Prepare and deliver weekly/monthly reports, dashboards, and recovery trackers.

Basic Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Civil)

·       Minimum 15 years of experience in managing large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects

·       Proven experience in Greenfield project execution from design through commissioning

·       Strong working knowledge of EPCM projects, design coordination, vendor management, and site execution

Candidate profile

  • Strong personality to Manage Vendors and construction companies.

  • Understanding of GMP, regulatory, and validation requirements in pharma manufacturing

  • Strong stakeholder communication, documentation, and leadership skills

Challenges in position

  • The project is on a fixed and aggressive schedule — any slippage impacts plant readiness, validation, and product launch.

  • Managing multiple trackers/workstreams (Civil, MEP, Automation, Utilities, etc.) simultaneously without letting any critical path drift.

  • Requires strong forecasting capability — can't rely on reactive firefighting.

  • Must identify issues during design or procurement that may impact construction and commissioning months later.

  • Controlling scope creep in a dynamic project where new requirements or technical changes are frequent.

  • With timelines fixed, there’s a tendency for costs to escalate (e.g., fast-track changes, late procurement, vendor claims).
