Job Description

The Associate Director, Global Trade Compliance (GTC) Business Process Owner (BPO) is responsible to develop and maintain processes and GTC systems that enable compliant, consistent, accurate and efficient filing of customs declarations for all Vertex exports and imports; as well as related GTC activities.  The BPO will collaborate with the GTC team on developing overall trade compliance strategy; further shape the strategy into repeatable scalable business processes and systems; functionally own the Global Trade Management (GTM) system and technology including interfaces with Vertex ERPs and other systems to support these processes; and act as a GTC Project Manager for process and systems implementations. 

Related activities include master data management of GTC critical data elements, restricted party screening and export licensing, trade incentive programs, value reconciliation and reporting, KPIs & metrics, new product introduction, and network design analysis. These processes also include the outsource of key transactions to a GTC managed service provider (MSP) or consultant. The BPO will promote end-to-end (Export-to Import) process standardization and evolution and will be responsible for key initiatives to increase efficiency of GTC practices across all disease areas and stages within drug development, clinical, manufacturing and delivery life cycle.  This person will be a key member of the Global Trade Compliance (GTC) team and will collaborate closely with SC planning, Logistics, ISC, CSC, PharmSci, Research, Facilities, Tax, Finance and DTE leadership to ensure GTC deliverables are prioritized. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with GTC and DTE to understand and document the current state of GTC processes and associated GTM systems and technology across disease areas and to identify gaps and prioritize improvements.
  • Drive the global strategy for GTC processes and systems by partnering with GTC, Supply Chain and other functional leaders to understand business processes, key pain points, priorities, and future needs, while helping shape the broader Global Trade Compliance strategy and direction.
  • Develop and own SOPs, Work Instructions, collaborating with the various GTC SMEs and the MSP’s for their own SOPs/WIs.       
  • Manage critical cross-functional handoffs and process interfaces to ensure seamless transition, integration, and execution across GTC and adjacent functions.
  • Promotes use of appropriate governance to ensure alignment on GTC process improvements and associated GTM systems and technology initiatives
  • Applies a continuous improvement mindset to evolving GTC processes and GTM systems
  • Quantifies benefits of process and related GTM systems/tech improvements with formal business cases and advocates for budget to execute these projects.
  • Owns process and related GTM system / tech improvement projects; leads working teams, develops and maintains project plans and tracks project progress against deliverables.
  • Ensures resolution of acute GTM systems issues in concert with GTC and DTE.
  • Develop GTC Item Numbering rules and protocols for exported and imported material that does not have an Item Master (e.g. research material, DTE and lab equipment, bio samples). 
  • Develop and maintain processes for managing GTC master data management including HTS codes, ECCN, Values, Business Partner data like Tax and VAT numbers.
  • Develop and maintain processes for restricted party screening and export license management.
  • Develop and maintain processes for managing trade incentive programs including duty drawback, inward processing relief, foreign trade zones, FTA qualification.
  • Develop and maintain processes for post entry adjustments, value reconciliation, new product introduction, and network analysis.
  • Ensure training materials reflect processes and utilized effectively for onboarding all GTC and stakeholder staff.

TECHNICAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of GTC processes and technology including GTM systems like Oracle GTM, SAP GTS.
  • Understands the business, roles and responsibilities of key functions and how to utilize key governance forums. 
  • Proven track record of leading GTC initiatives with strong focus on compliance, continuous improvement and strategy formulation. 
  • Project management and change management skills
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with high degree of effectiveness.
  • High level understanding of GTC processes and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, execute, follow up and anticipate challenges
  • Proven effective communication skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in GTC, logistics, supply chain, tax or related business discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in GTC, logistics, supply chain, ore related business or relevant field

Pay Range:

$148,000 - $222,000

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

3.    On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
