The Role & Your Impact

As Patent Attorney, you will play a key role in guiding the growth and protecting the profitability of Novonesis by applying your specialist IP expertise. In this role, you will operate at the intersection of day‑to‑day execution, tactical decision‑making and strategic influence. You will have a tangible impact on R&D direction and business decisions while working in a global context, supporting projects and stakeholders across the organization.
 

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Harvesting inventions and drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications

  • Conducting and assessing freedom‑to‑operate analyses to support research, development and commercialization

  • Advising and partnering with R&D on collaborations, projects and innovation strategies

  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure strong, value‑creating IP positions

  • Contributing to the continuous development and optimization of how we work with IP in Novonesis

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • An educational background in natural sciences, preferably within biology, biotechnology, chemistry or a related field

  • At least a few years of hands‑on experience working as a patent attorney

  • A solid understanding of patent law and practical IP processes, from invention harvesting to prosecution and freedom‑to‑operate analyses

  • Strong analytical skills combined with curiosity and a genuine desire to continuously learn and develop

  • The ability to communicate complex IP matters clearly and effectively to stakeholders at different levels across the organization

  • An open and adaptable mindset, with a willingness to embrace change and contribute to evolving ways of working

  • Professional fluency in English, both written and spoken

Additional Skills & Interests We Value

While not required, it is an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience working with IP within biosolutions or related industries

  • A flair for digital tools and data‑driven ways of working

  • Formal qualifications such as EQE or similar (or motivation to pursue them)
