About this role

Interested in a career that matters?

At Novonesis, we use science to build better businesses and a more sustainable future. We are now looking for a Strain Approval Scientist to join our global Strain Approval Support team and help ensure that our innovative biotechnology solutions meet regulatory requirements across global food, novel food, and feed markets.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of industrial genetic engineering, regulatory science, and product development - transforming complex R&D data into high‑quality documentation that enables product launches and market access worldwide.

Welcome to Strain Approval Support

Strain Approval Support (SAS) is a global team operating at the interface between genetic engineers developing new production strains using cutting‑edge molecular biology tools and our regulatory approval units. Our mission is to ensure the safety and compliance of Novonesis’ sustainable products and to support continued access to global markets.

You will join a collaborative, knowledge‑sharing team with an inclusive culture, working closely with molecular biologists, regulatory experts, pilot plant facilities, and quality functions across the organization.

The role & your impact

As our new Strain Approval Scientist, you will play a key role in maintaining Novonesis’ strong position as a global leader in industry compliance:

  • Ensure efficient communication and alignment between key stakeholders, including R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Pilot Plants, and Quality Control

  • Collect, write, and deliver scientifically robust strain descriptions for product approvals across multiple geographies

  • Support and help direct the generation of experimental data required for strain characterization

  • Provide guidance to scientists and managers in production strain development to ensure regulatory readiness and approval

  • Bridge knowledge gaps across disciplines and teams, strengthening collaboration and information flow within SAS and the wider organization

What you’ll need to be successful

  • A high performing team-based mindset. The team is working according to agile principles - constantly improving ways of working to deliver high quality documentation to hard, and sometimes short deadlines.

  • A MSc or PhD Degree in bioengineering, biotechnology, or biology.

  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills in English.

  • A collaborative, curious and self-driven mindset.

Additional skills & interests we value

  • Have experience with genetic engineering and/or protein expression, either through direct experience or close collaboration with genetic engineers.

  • Hold experience with product registration, strain approval, regulatory approval, or similar tasks from small, medium, or large companies, preferably in biotechnology.

  • Experience from product registration in multiple geographies.

  • Have experience working with bioinformatics tools such as Benchling, CLC bio, Python scripts for phylogenetics analysis and databases mining and/or experience with document filing systems or quality management systems such as Veeva Vault or Intelex.
