Job Description:

Entry to developing individual contributor, who works under close supervision. Performs duties related to the success and growth of the organization's Environmental Health and Safety programs; helps execute new health and safety programs and processes. Supports continuous improvement activities related to improving accident investigation and cause identification processes; assists with implementation of new policies and practices designed to minimize the organization's impact on the environment. Helps develop health and safety training courses, new-hire safety orientations, pre-emptive compliance inspections.
Assists in the preparation and submission of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) regulatory agency applications, permits, and reports to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Ensures that material safety data sheets and EH&S guidelines and protocols are maintained and readily available to all departments within the organization.
Schedules routine facilities, equipment, and operations inspections in order to identify and evaluate risk factors and eliminate potential hazards and/or hazardous processes.
Provides assistance with EH&S-based education programs, from employee safety training programs to site-specific certification courses.
Demonstrates awareness and develops a comprehensive knowledge of EH&S regulations and legislations in order to ensure the organization and its operations are in full compliance.
Assists with maintaining required records and reports associated with environmental permits and authorizations, waste disposal methods, and handling of hazardous materials.
Understands and applies Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives in day-to-day interactions with team.

: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Record and manage EHS data, including incidents, good saves, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), ensuring timely reporting and data integrity.

  • Compliance Monitoring: Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and walkdowns to identify compliance gaps in electrical, machine, and facility safety.

  • Risk Assessment (HIRA): Lead Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and JOB Safety Analysis (JSA) for critical jobs to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Hazardous Waste Management: Coordinate waste management activities, including identification, storage, and disposal of hazardous/non-hazardous waste, ensuring compliance with documentation.

  • EHS Management Systems: Maintain and update EHS systems in alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

  • Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents/incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend corrective measures.

  • Training & Training: Lead safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and new hire orientations to promote safety awareness.

  • Environmental Compliance: Provide support to site facilities regarding effluent/air abatement systems and ensure environmental compliance (EPR).

  • Management Support: Highlight EHS issues to site management and provide technical support to maintain high levels of safety performance.

  • Operates with delegated functional EHS authority to support implementation of the Johnson & Johnson Credo, Global EHS Policies, and MedTech / Surgery sector EHS requirements at the site.

  • Authorized to identify, document, and communicate EHS risks, hazards, and non‑conformances across all assigned work areas, including employee and contractor activities, and to recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

  • Empowered to intervene and require immediate risk mitigation measures (e.g., temporary controls, task pause, isolation, PPE reinforcement) when unsafe conditions or unsafe acts are observed, and to promptly escalate such situations to the EHS Manager or line leadership in accordance with site escalation protocols.

  • Supports the Stop‑Work culture by:

  • Promptly raising life‑critical risk concerns

  • Initiating escalation for formal stop‑work decisions

  • Reinforcing the expectation that safety takes priority over operational targets

  • Authorized to conduct EHS inspections, compliance checks, risk assessments, and observations within assigned scope, and to verify implementation of required controls under J&J EHS standards and local regulatory requirements.

  • Authorized to collect, validate, enter, and analyse EHS data in J&J approved systems (e.g., CURVE or equivalent), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in line with J&J incident reporting and data integrity expectations.

  • Participates in incident and near‑miss investigations, including evidence collection, data analysis, and draft CAPA development, under the guidance of the EHS Manager, ensuring learning is captured and shared.

  • Authorized to support permitting, contractor EHS oversight, training coordination, and communication activities, consistent with site procedures and J&J Contractor Safety requirements.

  • Has unrestricted access to relevant site areas, documentation, and personnel necessary to carry out assigned EHS assurance activities, audits, and investigations.

  • Authorized to escalate unresolved or high‑risk EHS issues without fear of retaliation, consistent with J&J Speak‑Up and non‑retaliation principles, through defined site and regional EHS channels.

  • Expected to exercise independent professional judgement within delegated authority, while recognizing that final EHS approvals, stop‑work confirmation, and governance decisions rest with the EHS Manager and line leadership.

SECTION 3: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION*

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 5-10 years of experience in EHS within a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry environment.

  • Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of EHS legislation, occupational health, chemical safety, and risk assessment techniques.

  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and data management systems.

  • Language: Fluent in English & Hindi; Marathi is a strong advantage.
