Responsibility for optimizing the product portfolio within Sandoz Technical Operations (STO) for the large molecule and injectable product platform. Responsible for managing the portfolio of biopharmaceutical and injectable products as well as Sandoz's future portfolio (including new formats such as GLP-1, ADCs, oligonucleotides, medical devices, and combination products), ensuring product launch plans are met along with commercial mid- and long-term forecasts, through strategic partnerships with development and commercial colleagues. The purpose of the position is to ensure cross-functional alignment to achieve product launch readiness in compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards. The role provides strategic support to the head of the large molecule and injectable product platform within STO in leading strategic planning and network transformation to achieve Sandoz’s independence, including the development of STO locations and departments involved in procurement, clinical, and commercial production and release of biological and injectable products. Operations in accordance with legislation, internal regulations, good practices, and business objectives. Responsibility for managing and developing employees.

Job Description

Your Key Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Operate within the framework of a global technical operations organization (such as manufacturing, science and technology, supply, quality, etc.) and, together with key partners at Sandoz, design, establish, and lead an effective and successful product and project portfolio management function.
  • Oversight of medium- to long-term comprehensive planning, implementation, and monitoring of supply strategy for biopharmaceutical and injectable products, including active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceuticals, medical devices/combination products, as well as product lifecycle management activities and technology transfer. Supervision of strategic product allocation and supplier selection. Preparation of various investment scenarios for relevant stakeholders, including STO and the Sandoz management team (e.g., PAM and SIRC).
  • Ensure that the agreed Sandoz portfolio strategy for large molecules and injectable products is supported by operational capabilities and capacities, independently of Novartis and other partners on whom Sandoz is currently heavily dependent. - Definition of technologies and capabilities that need to be established in the Technical Operations network and ensuring and leveraging synergies within Sandoz. Establishment of effective and successful systems and processes both within Technical Operations (e.g., STO ESO, STO MS&T) and with other stakeholders at Sandoz (e.g., Sandoz global development, commercial organization, …)
  • Together with relevant functions (Development, BD&L, …) lead the long-term strategy of 'make vs. buy'. Ensure that projects are justified in terms of allocated resources, timelines, and in accordance with applicable internal governance procedures. Lead comprehensive portfolio management by setting overall objectives and ensuring complete transparency of risks, monitoring mitigation measures, and identifying issues that require discussion or escalation.
  • Establish management procedures for portfolio management and ensure their consistent implementation. For example, use internal Sandoz committees in the procedures and ensure that all relevant stakeholders are informed about plans, budgets, status, risks, critical decisions, and consequences. Definition and provision of successful and efficient systems and processes through the use of new technologies and comparison of production processes with key competitors.
  • Close collaboration with the Technical Operations Management Team in designing, advising, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure their compliance with local and global standards. Close collaboration with the Technical Operations Leadership Team in creating, advising on, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure their compliance with local and global standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with global and local regulations and systems in the field of quality for biopharmaceutical and injectable products. Implementing digital solutions in new technologies for analyses, predictive models, analytics, and artificial intelligence in our manufacturing processes, enabling end-to-end data concepts. Ensuring smooth collaboration with internal functions and external partners.
  • Responsibility for designing an agile function that is resilient to potential risks and effectively manages changes in internal and external environments Monitoring the optimal organizational structure for the entire platform. Being a role model for colleagues in the function, setting scientific standards, and promoting scientific excellence in the organization, so that the Technical Operations platform for large molecules and injectable products recognized as a leader in the industry. Increasing the visibility of Sandoz in the scientific sphere, so that Sandoz becomes a 'preferred employer (i.e., employer of choice)' with the aim of attracting top talent
  • Supports and leads / mentors colleagues so that the team becomes versatile, highly innovative, independent, and motivated. Encourages the development of organizational culture and change management.   • Responsible for personal and professional development as well as the development of colleagues. Implements and adheres to all instructions and requirements to ensure safe work, environmental protection, and safeguarding of assets. Represents the company's vision, values, and fosters good relationships with business partners. Other tasks defined through the annual goal-setting discussion and performance indicators. Other duties as instructed by the supervisor and tasks based on special appointments.

What you’ll bring to the role:

Essential Requirements:

  • Master's degree in pharmaceuticals, other technical areas, MBA optional.
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in manufacturing / operations management, preferably in pharmaceutical technical operations.
