About this role
Interested in a career that matters?
In Novonesis, we believe solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. In the Mix, Fill & CMO Optimization LAB Department, you will join a global center of excellence within Process and Product Development (PPD), working with living active bacteria cultures across Dairy, Human Health, Meat, Yeast, and Animal Health.
You will be part of a team of 10 skilled scientific colleagues who collaborate closely across internal manufacturing and Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs). Together, the team plays a critical role in ensuring robust processes, strong product quality, and seamless collaboration across the culture value chain—contributing directly to Novonesis’ purpose and business impact.
The Role & Your Impact
As CMO Process Specialist, you will take on a global, operational and tactical role focused on execution and optimization of production-related processes at CMOs. Your key contribution is to safeguard and improve product quality by acting swiftly and effectively when deviations occur.
Your responsibilities include:
Following up on CMO product quality performance and driving corrective and preventive actions
Handling deviations and complaints related to CMO production
Performing shop floor troubleshooting to identify root causes and implement sustainable countermeasures
Supporting process optimization initiatives when product quality deviates from expectations
Acting as a key interface between internal manufacturing and external CMOs, ensuring alignment and knowledge transfer
This role has a global scope and works closely with QA, CMO Management, Commercial functions, and other stakeholders in the Novonesis CMO environment.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
To succeed in this role, you bring:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field
Newly graduated or a few years of experience from a biotechnology or production-related environment
A strong interest in production processes and operational excellence
Fluent English, both written and spoken
You are comfortable working in an international setup and motivated by hands-on problem solving close to production.
Additional Skills & Interests We Value
While not required, it is an advantage if you bring international experience or exposure to global manufacturing environments. Experience working with CMOs or other external production partners would also be beneficial, as would knowledge of fermentation, cultures, or biological production processes. Additional language skills beyond English are considered a plus.
What We Offer
At Novonesis, you will find a role with a clear impact on product quality and global operations, offering strong opportunities for learning and professional development within Process and Product Development (PPD) and Operations. You will be part of a collaborative, knowledge‑sharing culture alongside highly skilled scientific colleagues, in an inclusive work environment where diverse perspectives are valued.
We offer flexibility regarding working hours and the option to work from home. However, success in this role requires hands‑on shop floor work at manufacturing sites, as well as travel of approximately three weeks per year to CMOs and internal sites.
