About this role

Interested in a career that matters?

Do you want to help make construction and engineering projects safer across Europe? In this role, you will join a newly established team supporting CAPEX projects with safety coordination, quality, and functional safety—helping ensure that projects and equipment meet relevant safety and quality legislation.

You will become part of a small, specialized team of 3 people that works closely across production sites, with regular weekly virtual touchpoints and monthly face-to-face collaboration. Together, the team contributes to the growth of Novonesis by strengthening safety in our projects and helping build compliant, high-quality solutions.

The role & your impact

As Safety Coordinator Engineering Europe, you will play an important execution-focused role in supporting safe planning, construction, and project delivery across European sites. You will work closely with project managers, EHS, project teams, external consultants, and subcontractors to make sure safety standards are consistently implemented and followed throughout all project phases.

Your key responsibilities in this role

  • Drive the implementation of project safety standards, procedures, and Global Minimum Requirements (GMR EHS) across European projects.

  • Ensure safety requirements are integrated and clearly communicated throughout all project phases.

  • Support safe planning, execution, and completion of construction activities, including high-risk work and permit-to-work processes.

  • Conduct site safety inspections and follow up on PPE use, access control, signage, barricading, and unsafe conditions.

  • Organize and deliver site safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.

  • Support incident and near-miss response, reporting, documentation, and follow-up, while coordinating with subcontractors and engineering stakeholders to maintain consistent safety standards.

What you’ll need to be successful in this role

  • A B.S. in an engineering discipline or a strongly related field.

  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in construction safety, engineering project environments, or related HSE roles.

  • A completed Health and Safety Coordinator course.

  • Thorough knowledge of construction safety legislation, regulations, and standards.

  • Solid understanding of typical construction hazards, including work at height, lifting operations, excavation, hot work, electrical work, and traffic management.

  • Ability to prepare and review basic safety documentation such as checklists, registers, and reports.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coach and influence safe behavior—not just enforce rules.

  • Good written and spoken communication skills in both Danish and English.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound analytical/problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional local and global project environments.

Additional skills & interests we value

  • Experience working on construction sites as an HSE assistant, safety officer, site foreman, or in a similar role with a strong safety focus.

  • A proactive and observant approach to identifying risks and following through on corrective actions.

  • The ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic project environment.

  • A collaborative mindset and project experience that supports close cooperation across stakeholders.

  • A self-motivated way of working with the ability to prioritize tasks and drive initiatives independently.
