About this role

At AstraZeneca, we are committed to improving patient outcomes through science, evidence, and innovation. We are now looking for a Health Data Scientist to join our Medical Evidence team in the Nordics.

AstraZeneca Nordic Marketing Company employs around 550 people with offices in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Espoo. Across the Nordics, AstraZeneca is a recognized leader within its therapy areas, driven by innovative science and strong partnerships within healthcare – all with the ambition to improve the lives of millions of patients.

This role is central to how we build and use healthcare data to generate evidence across the region. You will bring together complex data from multiple sources, create robust and analysis-ready datasets, and support the delivery of insights that inform medical decision-making.

You will work across the Nordic region, based in one of our Nordic offices, and collaborate closely with colleagues in Evidence, Medical, and other cross-functional teams, as well as with external stakeholders and data partners. This role is focused on using strong technical and analytical data skills to generate insights from real-world evidence and support healthcare decision-making. It suits someone with hands-on data expertise and a genuine interest in healthcare, evidence generation, and patient outcomes.

In this role, you will

  • Build and maintain integrated healthcare datasets across the Nordic countries.

  • Manage end-to-end data workflows from ingestion and transformation through harmonisation, linkage, documentation, and version control.

  • Ensure datasets are high quality, reproducible, and fit for evidence generation through robust data cleaning and quality assurance processes.

  • Conduct analyses that help answer important questions about patient populations, pathways, treatment patterns, outcomes, and healthcare utilisation.

  • Contribute to methodological design including derivations, algorithms, code lists, and analysis dataset specifications.

  • Produce clear technical documentation, visualisations, and reporting outputs to support transparency and interpretation of results.

  • Explore AI-assisted approaches to strengthen data quality checks and anomaly detection where relevant.

  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with applicable privacy, governance, ethical, and regulatory requirements.

Essential experience and capabilities

  • Degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, data science, health informatics, public health, computer science, or a related field.

  • Experience working with healthcare data, real-world data, or similar datasets in healthcare, life sciences, or public health.

  • Strong experience in data integration, data management, data cleaning, and transformation across multiple sources.

  • Analytical and statistical experience, including descriptive analysis, regression analysis, and survival analysis.

  • Proficiency in SQL, R, Python, and/or SAS.

  • Knowledge of healthcare coding systems such as ICD, ICD-O-3, SNOMED, and ATC.

  • Understanding of healthcare data privacy, governance, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.

  • Fluent in English; Nordic language skills are an advantage.

Desirable experience

  • Experience with Nordic healthcare data and country-specific data structures.

  • Experience supporting observational studies, evidence generation, or healthcare analytics projects.

  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in healthcare data, such as NLP, anomaly detection, or automated classification.
