Senior Director, Market Transformation Kidney
Job Summary
Vertex is seeking a Senior Director, Market Transformation to help position the company as a commercial leader in delivering life-changing medicines to patients through innovative capabilities, cutting-edge solutions, and strategic partnerships. This role will identify emerging market trends, bring external insights into the organization, and translate opportunities into scalable programs that increase awareness for our brands, improve patient access, and support business objectives.
The Senior Director will work cross-functionally to shape strategic decisions, accelerate innovation, and strengthen relationships with influential stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem. This leader will play a critical role in improving patient access to our medicines while supporting sustainable growth across Vertex’s portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the external healthcare, market, and policy landscape to identify trends, risks, and opportunities relevant to Vertex brands and access strategies
- Provide actionable market insights that enable cross-functional teams to make informed brand, access, and commercialization decisions
- Support key product launches and portfolio optimization efforts by identifying market transformation opportunities that drive sustainable growth
- Evaluate and advance new solutions in areas such as AI, digital health, and alternative distribution models (e.g., CDS, telehealth)
- Design, develop, and activate innovative programs that drive awareness for our brands and improve patient access (e.g., develop business care, scout/select solutions, gain approval of programs)
- Rigorously evaluate the business value of proposed opportunities and capabilities using defined criteria, prioritizing programs with the most potential
- Establish and monitor adoption metrics and key KPIs, providing regular reporting to BU leadership on utilization and value realization
- Continuously assess operational efficiencies and innovative approaches that improve execution and patient outcomes
- Scale programs that demonstrate measurable impact and are ready for broader implementation across teams and partners
- Partner closely with Commercial, Market Access, Medical, Patient Support, Legal, Compliance, and other key functions to ensure alignment and execution
- Identify and cultivate relationships with new and influential external stakeholders, organizations, and partners to expand reach and enhance patient impact
- Lead with a strategic, patient-centered mindset while ensuring programs align with Vertex goals, standards, and compliance requirements
- Act as the primary liaison on BULT for market transformation, translating business needs into clear, prioritized opportunities and owning program execution within the BU
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- 12+ years of educational/work experience in biopharmaceuticals, healthcare strategy, commercial innovation, market access, consulting, or a related field Significant
- Proven ability to translate external market insights into strategic recommendations and business action
- Experience developing and implementing innovative healthcare solutions, partnerships, or patient access programs
- Strong understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, including market dynamics, access considerations, and stakeholder engagement
- Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in a highly matrixed environment
- Strong executive presence, communication, and influence skills
- Ability to identify opportunities early, solve problems creatively, and drive execution with measurable impact

Pay Range:
$232,000 - $348,000Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
