Purpose:

The Learning & Development (L&D) Manager at Johnson & Johnson is a strategic leader responsible for defining and leading the Ottava Manufacturing L&D function. This role advances workforce capability, ensures training compliance, and drives standardization across manufacturing sites. The manager works closely with senior leadership to shape learning strategies, lead large-scale initiatives, and mentor junior leaders, building a high-performing, compliant, and innovative learning culture.

This is a foundational role in a high-growth environment. Success requires a hands-on leader who can operate with limited direction, bring structure to ambiguity, and translate evolving business priorities into practical, execution-ready solutions.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Roadmap Development: Own the site’s L&D roadmap aligned with corporate objectives, focusing on competencies development, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Learning Experience Innovation: Lead efforts to advance learning experiences through digital content creation, e-learning, and emerging L&D tools to support a modern, engaging workforce development environment.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with manufacturing, NPI, quality, EHS, HR, and external consultants/vendors to develop and deliver impactful training programs that support business goals.
  • Standardization & Best Practices: Drive standardization of training curricula, processes, and documentation across multiple manufacturing sites to ensure consistency, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Execution of Key Projects & Programs: Lead strategic initiatives such as establishing training labs, technician/associate upskilling programs, and deploying new training technologies.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee day-to-day L&D operations at manufacturing sites, ensuring timely delivery, quality, and compliance with training programs.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor the L&D team, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and a high-performance culture. Provide clera direction, prioritization, and alignment to the business strategy.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Monitor, analyze, and report on training metrics, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with industry standards.
  • Change Management & Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements, industry best practices, and innovative learning solutions to support operational excellence.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with manufacturing managers and cross-functional leaders to identify training needs, support new product launches, and ensure workforce readiness.
  • Define and execute the manufacturing L&D strategy and roadmap, aligned to business priorities, NPI and commercialization milestones, and workforce capability needs 
  • Build and scale practical, compliant training programs and frameworks that enable technician and engineering readiness in a regulated environment 
  • Partner cross-functionally (manufacturing, engineering, quality, HR) to translate evolving business needs into clear, execution-ready learning solutions 
  • Lead and develop the L&D team by providing clear direction, prioritization, and alignment to business context, enabling both strong execution and capability growth 
  • Establish standardized processes, metrics, and governance to ensure training effectiveness, compliance, and continuous improvement 

Qualifications / Requirements:

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Business, HR, or similar)
  • 8+ years of experience in Learning & Development and experience leading L&D strategy and execution in a manufacturing or regulated environment
  • Direct people management experience of at least 2 years
  • Demonstrated ability to build or scale programs/functions in a developing or changing environment
  • Proven ability to operate independently with minimal direction and deliver outcomes
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, workforce capability development, training systems, and quality/compliance standards
  • Demonstrated ability to implement advanced L&D tools, including digital content creation and e-learning platforms.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Engineering, Business Management, or related field.
  • Experience in MedTech, robotics, electronics, or complex assembly environments
  • Certifications such as Six Sigma, CPTD/ATD, PMP, or equivalent.
  • Experience with digital learning tools and scalable content development approaches (e.g., Articulate, Vyond, Camtasia).

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$118,000.00 to $179,655.00
