Position Brand Description:
Maintenance and reliability professional with deep expertise in Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), specializing in IBM Maximo. This is an individual contributor role within DME Digital Engineering Platforms — it is grounded in the maintenance, reliability, and asset management domain, not a traditional IT or people management position. The ideal candidate brings hands-on understanding of maintenance business processes, equipment reliability programs, and physical asset lifecycle management within regulated manufacturing environments. Equally important, they must be a strong analytical thinker who can extract, analyze, and present maintenance and reliability data to drive operational decisions. They will leverage this combination of domain knowledge and data proficiency to drive adoption, utilization, and continuous improvement of Lilly's global Maximo platform (GMARS), ensuring it delivers measurable value to site maintenance and engineering operations worldwide.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
- Serve as a global subject matter expert for GMARS (Maximo), providing discipline leadership and business process oversight for maintenance engineering. This includes asset management, work order management, preventive maintenance, calibration and metrology, planning and scheduling, and maintenance materials management.
- Drive adoption and effective utilization of GMARS across all Lilly manufacturing sites by partnering directly with site maintenance and reliability teams to understand their operational needs, resolve system issues, and champion best practices.
- Consult with site engineering and maintenance groups globally on maintenance assessments, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and productivity improvements to enhance maintenance effectiveness and equipment reliability.
- Develop, manage, and continuously improve dashboards, KPIs, metrics, and reports using Power BI, Tableau, SQL, and Excel to provide actionable operational insights. This includes querying Maximo data directly via SQL, building self-service reporting solutions, and translating raw maintenance data into meaningful narratives for site leadership and global stakeholders.
- Analyze maintenance and reliability trends — such as work order backlog aging, PM compliance, equipment failure rates, and material usage patterns — to identify improvement opportunities and support data-driven decision-making across the global M&R community.
- Evaluate and implement new Maximo capabilities (e.g., mobile work execution, condition-based maintenance, inspection forms, IoT integration) to modernize maintenance operations and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Partner with IT teams on system upgrades, enhancements, testing, and deployment of new GMARS releases, translating maintenance business requirements into functional and technical specifications.
- Ensure data integrity (ALCOA+) within GMARS and compliance with GMP/GLP regulatory standards applicable to pharmaceutical maintenance operations.
- Create and maintain engineering standards, guidance documents, training materials, and best practices for the global maintenance and reliability community.
- Influence the M&R community through the GMARS Community of Practice and Global Maintenance Leadership forum. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives including Lean programs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 10 years' experience in maintenance, reliability, or asset management roles
- Demonstrated experience configuring, administering, or serving as a functional lead for IBM Maximo or a comparable enterprise CMMS/EAM platform. Candidates must have hands-on experience with core Maximo business processes — not solely IT infrastructure or software development experience.
- Demonstrated experience with maintenance and reliability principles including preventive/predictive maintenance strategies, equipment reliability analysis, work order lifecycle management, and physical asset management.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting is essential. Candidates must have working knowledge of SQL for querying relational databases and demonstrated experience building dashboards and reports using business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms. Comfort working in Excel with large datasets is expected.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or other GMP/cGMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
Preferences:
- CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional), CRL (Certified Reliability Leader), or PE (Professional Engineer) certification.
- Experience supporting multi-site or global CMMS/EAM operations, including platform consolidation or large-scale implementation projects.
- Familiarity with condition-based maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication analysis, ultrasonic detection) and their integration with CMMS workflows.
- Experience with Maximo application areas such as Inventory Management, Inspection Forms, Automation Scripting, or OSLC/REST API integrations.
- Understanding of IT concepts relevant to CMMS support: requirements gathering, system testing (UAT), relational data modeling, and system integration fundamentals.
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines or reporting architectures that connect CMMS data to enterprise analytics platforms (e.g., data warehouses, lakehouses, or BI semantic layers).
- Experience developing training content and delivering end-user training for CMMS/EAM systems.
- Familiarity with regulated document management practices and data integrity frameworks (ALCOA+).
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence outcomes across sites and functions.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively with minimal daily direct supervision.
- This position requires relocation to Indianapolis, IN or assignment to an existing Lilly manufacturing site. Fully remote arrangements are not available for this role.
