The Role & Your Impact
- Performing microbiological testing, including enumeration of bacteria, yeast, and mould
- Conducting dairy and cheese analysis, including compositional monitoring
- Carrying out chemical and physical testing on customer and internal samples
- Preparing samples, reagents, and microbiological media
- Maintaining laboratory SOPs, documentation, and accurate result reporting
- Supporting technical service projects and customer‑related testing
- Ensuring compliance with FSMS, quality, safety, and biosecurity requirements
- Supporting phage testing, monitoring, and global technical collaboration
- Maintaining laboratory housekeeping, equipment calibration, and stock control
- Contributing to workflow efficiency, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science (microbiology focus), or a related science discipline
- Minimum 3–4 years of laboratory experience in food microbiology or a related environment
- Strong knowledge of microbiology techniques and laboratory best practices
- High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and documentation
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems and food safety standards
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple laboratory functions
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative team mindset
- Proficiency in MS Office for documentation and reporting

Ways of Working / Working Conditions
- On‑site laboratory‑based role in Bayswater, Melbourne
- Work involves routine laboratory activities, including sample handling and prolonged standing

- Adherence to strict safety, hygiene, and biosecurity requirements
