About Site

Our FDA-licensed, state-of-the-art CGMP manufacturing facility for Gene Therapies is located on the Harmans/BWI campus. The campus, featuring two manufacturing facilities is located 5 miles from the Baltimore Washington International (BWI) airport and 13 miles from our Baltimore location. The campus is close to Washington, DC’s I-270 Technology Corridor, top universities, and government agencies.

The Harmans/BWI-1 EMA and FDA approved facility, at approximately 200,000 sq. ft., houses 10 CGMP manufacturing suites, fill/finish, central services, testing labs, and a warehouse.

The Harmans/BWI-2 facility, at approximately 145,000 sq. ft., is under development and will house 8 CGMP manufacturing suites and cold storage warehousing.

Both facilities support Phase 3 through commercial manufacturing of advanced therapeutic products including AAV and other viral vector-based therapies and vaccines.

Position Summary

We have an opportunity for a Senior Facilities & Utilities Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a GMP facility, key utilities, equipment, and laboratory systems to support manufacturing and research operations. You will work closely with various departments to ensure smooth operations and compliance with safety and quality standards. This position reports to the Supervisor, Facilities.

Shift: Thursday - Saturday and every other Wednesday - 6am-6pm
Location: Harmans, MD - BWI
100% Onsite

The Role

  • Operate, maintain, and repair utility systems including HVAC, clean steam generator, chiller, USP-water/DI water skids, WFI systems, plant steam boilers, and air compressors.
  • Assist management in writing operational protocols, preventive maintenance, and calibration procedures.
  • Accurately complete and maintain all equipment logbooks and maintenance records.
  • Troubleshoot and repair laboratory and manufacturing equipment such as fermenters, pumps, filtration skids, and freezers.
  • Participate in facility expansion and validation projects.
  • Assist in training other mechanics and personnel on facility systems and processes.
  • Recommend parts and supply purchases for equipment within manufacturing and lab areas.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and lab staff to troubleshoot and repair equipment problems.
  • Work under general supervision to meet project goals.
  • Collaborate with various departments at Catalent and provide assistance as needed.
  • Follow Catalent safety procedures, practices, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • Provide feedback on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work plans, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Candidate

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of related experience in biologics manufacturing, GMP environment, hospital, food, or chemicals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with supervisors, technicians, and contractors.
  • Basic math and computer skills (Word, Excel) and familiarity with building automation systems (BAS).
  • Good mechanical ability for troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb ladders or step stools for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate and repair tools, equipment, and systems.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, or at varying heights such as rooftops and platforms.
  • Tolerance for exposure to noise, vibration, varying temperatures, and industrial environments.
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and respirators as required.

Preferred Skills & Background

  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a biopharmaceutical manufacturing or R&D facility, supporting GMP production of Phase I/II bulk biologics.
  • Experience working in an FDA-regulated, cleanroom environment requiring full gowning (Tyvek coverall, gloves, hair cover, shoe covers).
  • Grade 3 Stationary Engineer’s License.
  • Experience with Blue Mountain Regulatory Manager is a plus.

Pay

The anticipated hourly rate for this position in MD is $39.90 – $44.74 Plus Bonus. The final hourly rate offered to a successful candidate may vary, and will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, skillset, education, business needs, etc. Catalent is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
